For good brands I'd look at for quality & tech. l do not believe there is just one single best brand, Many people have their favorite but it does not mean it is the best just what they like. All these companies I've listed below r known for releasing quality lines of boards with the latest snowboard tech.

Avoid pretty much all the brands sold at those big retail stores ''D&icks,sports check,sports authority,big 5 ect ect''. Pretty much all the brands sold there ''Lamar,LTD,Sims'' r low end garbage decks that any boarder planning to go a lot should not bother buying, They will only end up holding u back.

The bottom two have a reverse camber design & magnetraction, The rocker will help with presses & float in pow it also makes the majority of the edge control between the bindings now instead of all over the board, which in the end really helps with keeping control of the board. Magnetraction is an edge design think of it like a serrated edge or wavy edge that allows for multiple points to be gripping the snow this helps a lot with edge control on icey conditions

burton is the best brand of snowboards. They've been around the longest & it is their specialty. l got my board from there [light blue]. Definitely go with a Burton. it will be on the upper end of the cost spectrum because they r so high tec, etc. Definitely the best quality also. they guarantee their goods for a year after the purchase date. I've had my board since 06/07 season & no problems what so ever. Could not have asked for a better board. [Go with the Burton lux, perfect board. But if the graphics r not ur style the feather is also another nice option. My friend has one loves it.] GOOD LUCK! First season is always the best!
