since some boards measurments fall between the guidelines l have for my height/weight- as a beginner, would it be harder for me to start out on a board that is too big? or too small?


im 5'5 and 120lbs

both would cause you trouble, if you got a board which was too long it would be hard to turn, a shorter board but be harder to balance, a board which would be good is one which came up between your shoulders and chin and then ovbiously take your weight into account

A longer is definitely harder to learn on, a long one kind of restricts you from making turns and it is heavier,short boards are easier to maneuver and stay up on! unless your going to be in powder then you might need a little longer board! Good luck and have fun!!
