Ive seen free boards around.
But l was wandering is it just a cheesy gimmick.
or does it really make you better at snowboarding.

It is not a gimmick. It is the real deal & it takes skill & balls. As for making u a better snowboarder. It is hard to say. It is very different in many ways. It feels the same to a certain extent but it is not easy to just to jump on & ride any hill. However it is like ur always riding on ur edge. The back edge of a freebord has a tendency to want to kick out. So u have to get used to that feeling otherwise risk high siding.
l think freebording will make u a braver rider. It is also something awesome to do in the off season.
