Hey, my dad just randomly bought me a snowboard. It is used, but has only been out 4 times and still looks great and is really smooth on top and bottom. It is a 5150 Stroke l think. l have no idea about snowboards or anything, so is that a decent board to begin on?

Thanks!

thats actually a good board :P
its pretty sick looking too.
its a really good board to start out on, however l do not know how far it will take you. it will most likely be good for any hill, but not suited for park riding.
then again the board l have now is meant for beginners & not suited for park riding, & have had it for 3 years, used in the park for 2 years :P

so it should be a good ride for you. as long as it is the right size. if you're around 5'8 to 6' , it should be sized about 151cm-156cm

that is a well-known brand, so it should be fine.

i'm not familiar with that brand is models, so l do not know what purpose that board is suposed to fulfill specifically, but i'm sure it will work out for you in general.

read up on what types of boards are suited for what types of riding, and take that into consideration when you get your next one after you've developed a liking to a certain style.

have fun!

Make sure that your board is the right width. This board appears to be wide and should only be used for people with bigger feet who get a lot of toe or heel overhang.

Maybe you do need this wide board or maybe you will never even notice.

Seems to be a well know enough make so should be good enough.

5150 is actually a sick brand. they make some really nice snowboards. they are perfect for people just starting to snowboard. l started out with a 5150 shooter and it was great. its a really great board to start out on.

5150 is like a beginner brand so it will be okay for you through your first or second season, but after that you might want a better board depending on your riding style.

5150 is a decent brand (it is actually a brand that is made by Ride, which is an excellent company). They r nice boards for beginners because they r pretty well made & relatively cheap.
You really want to make sure that u have the correct board length (and possibly width) & that u have decent bindings as well.
A generally decent indicator of the correct size is that u want a board that comes between ur chin & nose when u stand it in front of you. Really it is much more complex than this (depending upon weight, experience, type of riding), but this is a decent way to determine correct board size. You also want to make sure that ur boots do not hang over the edge TOO much. You do want a little bit of an overhang, but not a whole lot.
