I am a beginner and have been looking at two particular snowboards. The first one being the Burton Blunt Wide and the second being the Forum Lander Wide. Going with a wide board for weight reasons. l know Forum is owned by Burton however l still like to read reviews and get peoples opinions. l read a review that the Burton Blunt is a good beginner board but have not found any reviews of the Forum Lander. Being that the Forum Lander is only in it is second year of production how good of board is it anyway? What I am looking for in a board is something that is of good quality that l can learn on and progress on without having to replace with something else later on down the road.
I am 5'9 240 lbs. and wear a 8 1/2 4e width. Since l posted my question I've spoke to some shops l found online. Most recommend l go with a all around standard board in a little bit longer length. My normal length would be a 156 cm but because of my weight l should go with a 160 cm. One suggestion was to consider going a little further up the price tag on a Burton Custom ICS which would be a go anywhere do anything type board that l certainly would not be replacing later down the road.

Usually the wide board is because the size of foot not weight. Although Burton Blunt sounds like a good pick. There is also the brand FLOW. The brand is from Europe and they are great beginner boards for weight and shoe size. My husband also considered the BLUNT but ended up with FLOW because their bindings are step in and step out. FLOW has great bindings engineered by BMW the automaker. The cost is about the same Well l hope this helps and good luck.

You might not have to get a wide board- if u would post ur height & weight u might be able to ride other boards!!! There is a lot of really good beginner boards out there- the ones u mentioned though: the Burton Blunt is a park board that l would not really recommend for a beginner- l think it would be a little too buttery for u & meant for a more seasoned rider. The Lander is probably too stiff for you- it is a big mountain board- translation a stiffie. l would really look for something that says all mountain freestyle- it will have the flex right where u want it. If u put ur size down l could find a board that would be better for u in the size u need! But l will put a few recommendations down regardless since u may not post.
1) Burton Deuce- an all mountain freestyle board that is not too expensive- try Ebay for last seasons model- going to have enough flex to learn on but stable enough to progres on
2) Forum Stomper- comes in Wide sizes & is going to be much more beginner friendly then the Lander- l would recommend this since u wanted a board that came in wide- not near as stiff as the Lander & it is a pretty reasonable price as well
3) Ride Control- a very reasonably priced board that u wont' have to replace as soon- an all mountain board- some of my guy friends ride this board & r a little newer to the snowboarding world

Anyways check them out- try Ebay for last season is model new & happy shredding!

Since u posted more info:

If u talked to a shop rep online- they would recommend something that is more expensive so that they get more money. The Burton Custom is going to be pretty hard to learn on- it is a fairly stiff board meant for at least an upper intermediate rider- l really would not get this one as a beginner. l would not spend the big bucks as a beginner thinking u wo not have to replace it- because u will. l would look at a reasonably priced flexible board otherwise the learning curve is going to be much harder & miserable- if u want to have a FUN time learning- get a softer not as espensive board that u can grow out of & learn on & then after a few years look for something different. A 160-162 is the right size for u but a Burton Custom is the wrong board. Since u only have size 8.5 mens feet if u get a wide board in that size u r going to loose a lot of response time on turning so l would satay clear of the wide sizes.
The Ride Control doesnt' come in ur size.
The Burton Deuce comes in a 163
The Forum Stomper comes in a 162

basically for a first board I'd look for something softer & not as expensive as the Custom

If you want a board that is made out of good quality materials so that you get good performance and do not have to replace something on it, my advice is to look at a different brand of board. Burton is a well-known brand, but their snowboards are made out of bunk materials. Gnu and Lib.-Tech sell boards that are much better than anything Burton has made in the last 20 years.
